Reconditioned Audi A1 automatic gearbox for sale
Introduction:
The
Audi A1 is truly one of the best small cars on the market and a previous What Car? Car of the Year – due to all the right reasons. It might share a number of mechanical parts with the more generous VW Polo, but the A1 feels every single bit an Audi, with a gorgeous interior that is ideally screwed together and the promise of superb resale values. There’s also a five-door edition, called the Sport back, if one needs easier access to the back seats.
The little A1 is proof that consumers are willing to pay a premium for a swift high-end small hatchback too and so far it has been a sell-out hit among buyers.
To be a perfect premium car though the A1 must do lot more than just look the part and wear the price. It needs to be as good on the uneven road and to be as much thrill as the Mini Cooper, for instance, while still offering big-car levels of refinement.
Space:
There is more than enough space for tall adults in the front of the
A1, along with adequate head and shoulder room for all but the largest individuals. There’s not a massive amount of oddment space on offer, mind one; you get a couple of cup holders in an awkward place just behind the gearlever. The door pockets can nicely cope with decent-sized drinks bottles, but that’s all about it.
This is unfortunately one of the A1’s weakest areas, because regardless of whether you pick the three-door version or the five-door Sport back, the swooping roofline doesn’t perform much for the amount of head room on offer to back-seat passengers.
Throw in knee-and leg room which are no better than the average and one ends up with two back seats (three in the Sport back) that are actually best suited to children. Only the shortest of grown-ups are possibly to undertake anything more than a brief drive in here without complaining – and even then, they’re unlikely to locate the near-vertical rear seatbacks particularly comfortable.
Engine and the automatic Gearbox of Audi A1:
All Audi A1s come as standard with a manual (non-automatic) transmission, a five-speeder on the 1.0-litre and TDI and a smart six-speed item on the
1.4-litre TFSIs and S1. Both gearboxes of the car are light and unobtrusive to use, creating fast gear changes easy.
There is also an optional seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox obtainable on all models except the S1. The S tronic is an unbelievably impressive gearbox, changes are almost instant and there is no hint of sloppiness. It’s incredible precision leaves no space for character.
The manual is much nicer to operate and makes one feel much more involved with the car, even if every gear change isn’t really perfect. There’s a small drop in economy along with that S Tronic transmission in the powerful three-cylinder 1.0 TFSI and diesel, though it doesn't alter the 0-62mph time. Emissions do drop almost a percentage point in the tax payable, which, in this marketplace really counts. Adjusted to the higher power 1.4 TFSI model economy and emissions are unaltered, as is the performance.
